Maternity Management
Avoiding costs associated with complicated pregnancies and premature births
American Health’s Maternity Management program provides education and support to expectant mothers to reduce instances of complications and subsequent high-dollar claims. Each year, premature births affect nearly 450,000 babies (1 of every 10 infants born) in the United States, costing the health care system more than $26 billion a year or about $52,000 per case.
American Health’s maternity nurse specialists average 20 years of maternity and neonatal experience. They provide members with ongoing monitoring, assessment and care planning for their pregnancies. Nurses regularly communicate with members and can tailor the frequency of contact to their needs. Women who are at the highest risks for complications in their pregnancy can be seamlessly transitioned to Maternity Case Management if needed.
American Health offers savings to benefit plans by:
- Minimizing future complications through health management and continuous assessment
- Reducing the number of work hours lost from complications during pregnancy and/or birth
- Decreasing the number of premature deliveries through assessment, early intervention and referrals to Maternity Case Management
