Maternity Management
Improves mother and child outcomes while reducing costs associated with complicated pregnancies and premature births
The March of Dimes estimates that one out of eight babies born in the U.S. is born prematurely, and that these babies cost employers nearly fifteen times more than full-term babies in their first year of life. With that in mind, American Health’s Maternity Management program provides education and support to expectant mothers in order to reduce instances of complications and subsequent high claims costs.
Our Maternity Nurse Specialists, on average, have 20 years of maternal and neonatal experience. They provide referred members with ongoing monitoring, assessment and care planning for both high- and low-risk pregnancies. Nurses regularly communicate with members and can increase the amount of contact depending on their needs. Women who are at the highest risks for complications in their pregnancy can be seamlessly transitioned to Maternity Case Management if needed.

In addition to providing a greater chance of preventing birth complications, we offer savings to benefit plans:
- Minimizing future complications through health management and continuous assessment
- Reducing the number of work hours lost from complications during pregnancy and/or birth
